MOAB
Recently I attended the MOAB wargaming convention in Sydney, this is my first wargaming convention.
It was quite awesome walking into the hall and seeing it filled with tables of people playing tournaments, I spent some time going around tables looking at all the cool models and terrain people had - trying my best not to disturb their matches. On top of that it was cool going around the sides of the room seeing the work of some Australian sculptors, perhaps one day I will get over my trepidation of metal miniatures.
Paint and Take
In one corner there was few tables set up where you could paint a model then take it home, all for free. I spent a couple hours here painting a Nazgul and chatting away with the other painters. We had a small group painting the same model and it was interesting to see how each person painted differently. This was my favourite part of the convention.

Bring and Buy
Going downstairs I entered the Bring and Buy room. What first struck me was the sheer amount of sprues that were on sale. One side of the room had various GW plastic sorted into factions, the middle of the room had Bolt Action and Star Wars, two of the walls had books and boardgames and the other side had miscellaneous piles. I resolved myself then dived into the miscellaneous piles. The miscellaneous piles were still mostly GW and the price of second hand models made me cringe. Scrounging around I found a box of high medieval knights from Conquest Games for a bargain. Then I found a North Star Games Undead Encounters pack for a decent price - the seller also had included a cheeky sprue of 5 classic GW skeletons. Adding in the Reaper Miniatures I got on sale from Aetherworks upstairs I had a enough for an undead Mordheim warband. I am very satisfied with the haul I got.
Conclusion
It was cool to feel a part of the larger modelling community for a change. I highly recommend a trip to MOAB if you’re in the area.
